ANATOMY FOR DUMMIES

Every artists start from somewhere and that somewhere is learning how to draw the human body it's the foundation of every professional artists working in the industry. It is not just a simple foundation  it's at the very core of every artist's skill  depending on the mastery of this core concept will dictate how an artist's will move forward in the art industry.

This is an informative video teaching beginning artists how to improve their anatomical knowledge when it comes to drawing because one of the major hurdles that every beginning artists will always be anatomy and it always proves to be a challenge in every artwork that involves the human body for every artists. Sad to say I have observed a lot of artist who have given up or remained stagnant, unchanging and I don't wish for future artists to be like that. This is a concept that every artists should learn and master  this because mastering this will unlock their full potential as an artist.

DRAWING THE HEAD

1st step on drawing head is you need a circle not a perfect circle but you practice is you will get used to it. This is usually the first trick that beginners use some start with square or with just a cross alone to draw the head.

Note: It a good warm up before drawing to draw shapes first or just a bunch of circles in different sizes and pressure (thick lines-thin lines)

2nd step is draw small circle on the side to determine where to put the ears and the to of the small circle is you need to add a line to identify where to the eyebrow and under that Is eye.

3rd you have the basic lines and you will add another line under the big circle to put the chin and remember the circle, the small circle you need to connect that. That is what you call the jaw line

4th step is just clean the excess  lines to make it clean and presentable. To make lines clean and clear you can use pencils in bold category from 2B-8B but thicker doesn't mean cleaner but it'll put more emphasis on the subject.

DRAWING THE BODY

Step 1: Draw face shape this'll help you determine what is the character's physique or build. After drawing the face shape add a straight line beneath the chin that represents the spine .

Step 2:  After drawing the face shape time to add the neck, shoulder and torso of the character a torso can be drawn as square shaped, round shaped or curvy which indicates physique. After drawing the torso put markings in this case circle  on both sides of the shoulder which represents left and right arm and circle left and right beneath the waste which represents the left and right thighs and legs.

Step 3: Before immediately drawing the arms and legs draw a line first which will serve as your guide when drawing the limbs you could always do this method you could draw the arms just by it's shape.

Step 4: Just like an action figure assembling piece all the parts together the legs and arms and remember the arms is always a tad bit longer than where the crotch is so it's not in line crotch but it's a little far from it.

Difference between Male and Female body

There are some key differences when it comes to the Male and Female body if learned, you can simply experiment and draw different physiques without losing their identity if they are male or female.

Male Body:

1. Men tend to have sharper edges notice the edge of their shoulders, chin and jaw line? that's one of it'\s characteristics.
2. Men have broader shoulders.
3. They have much more of a boxy figure than the women.
4. Shorter legs

Female body
1. Women have less broad shoulders and round edges on their shoulders, chin, and jaw line to indicate feminine looks.
2. Women tend to be more curvy than men the reason is to support childbearing they have much larger hips so that the child has more room to move inside the womb.
3. Longer legs

Keep in mind, these are not the definitive differences of men and women when it coms to anatomical structure things will change depending on their physique, age, and body build but in drawing these are the starting points to different body types.

To Inspire

Koku no hito by Shinichi Sakamoto

BATMAN by Jim Lee

These 2 artworks are a perfect example of anatomy "mastered" all the way from the head to bottom. To introduce, Koku no hito is a famous manga by mangaka Shinichi Sakamoto he's art is highly know to be detailed, at times can be photorealistic his anatomical knowledge is what sets him as one of the most highly regarded mangaka in Japan. He knows what muscles should stretch and contract the same can also be said to Jim lee, Jim lee is a comic artist from America he's mostly known for his works on the dark knight "Batman" in the image above, he perfectly displayed Batman's physique you can clearly where and what muscles should stretch and contract and also the amazing use of foreshortening which is an advanced technique especially when dealing with perspective.
Chun-li by Akira "Akiman" Yasuda

Quiet by Yoji Shinkawa

By including famous artists' works  in the video I had hoped to inspire beginners to what they could do if they master anatomy in of itself. Anatomy is an important foundation that needs to be learned, understood and mastered and sadly many have given up on it in my years of experience It is core knowledge that they'll use for many years to come of their careers. Mastering this would put them leaps and bound before they learned and mastered the Human Anatomy and through this, it'll serve as their gateway into designing mythical beings and monsters.

Bahamut from Final fantast VII remake by Square Enix

Monster designs from Monster hunter world by Capcom

By mastering the human body, these are the sorts of things that an artist could do in the future an important stepping stone indeed. Studying how to draw the head, the body, the difference between male and female body, face shapes and physiques will help you reach places that you couldn't before you'll start from simply drawing simple poses to a much more dynamic and expressive poses that delivers such energy and impact and the best part is that it goes by fast one wouldn't even realize how fast the improvement could do. All it takes is practice and determination to improve an artist must always have heart no matter what an artist that does not love what he or she is doing will never improve.
Work hard young artists, this world needs more creatives, the world just doesn't revolve around science and logic it needs imaginations and fantasy as well and that's where we come into play. The world is dull and gray and we are the ones who can bring life into it the power of art isn't just about making yourself feel good it's about making an impact to the people that will see your work and make them feel an emotion. In order to achieve that goal, you must have the mind ready to obtain knowledge and insights, the heart your willingness and passion to learn and a healthy body an artistic is useless if you don't take care of yourself, so, work hard and always keep that fire burning in you for that is the only way to become of the best.
